At the tail end of July, amidst a backdrop of soft clouds and occasional drizzle, I found myself sneaking away from a family camping trip with my brother-in-law, Dan, for a quick fishing session at the Ranch.

The weather, though a bit overcast, was surprisingly pleasant as we made our way to the river. Armed with a double nymph rig—my point fly being a Frenchie and my dropper a Cottonwood Classic—I was eager to see what the day had in store. Dan opted for a black Wooly Bugger, a tried-and-true favorite.

Dan was quick to land the first catch, a striking Bonneville Cutthroat, setting the tone for the morning. After a bit of a lull, I finally hooked into a nice Cutthroat on my Cottonwood Classic, proving the effectiveness of our chosen flies.

Despite our limited time on the water, we managed to enjoy a few hours of solid fishing before reluctantly heading back to the campgrounds to rejoin our family for the day's activities.

Overall, it was a successful outing at Cottonwood Ranch, and though brief, it's always good to fly fish Wyoming. Until next time, tight lines.
